Carrying bags, backpacks, fanny packs, and other comparable items are found in most general camera stores. They look fine but I will admit I have never used one.

Camera backpacks from LowePro, Tenba, Tamrac and Domke

Temba camera cases (jpeg)
The picture here shows the camera case with two catalogs of Tenba quality cases. One catalog covers computer cases; the other catalog covers camera bags and cases.

Domke has a good reputation and their catalog seems to offer a practical range of products. Domke is part of the Saunders Group, 21 Jet View Drive, Rochester, NY 14624, Another source is I really like the range of options offered by LowePro, especially their Stealth Packs.

Tenba is another manufacturer of bags for carrying cameras and computers. Their nice bags have arrived for evaluation. My partner Andrea inspected the computer bag and immediately wanted to take it for herself. This Tenba bag has several aspects that I like, but I will describe the computer bag in one of our web sites that discusses computer equipment. The present web site covers camera bags.

The Tenba camera backpack that I elected to evaluate was the largest model that would legally fit under the seat of an airplane, or more likely, that would fit into an overhead rack. It is well padded and so far it survived its first jungle expedition quite well (TV documentary on discovering lost cities of the ancient Maya civilization in Guatemala).

We are many months behind in reviewing products due to the quantity (and quality) of the items that have been arriving weekly for evaluation. We will discuss the Tenba series of bags in more detail on our next expedition to Central America. At the moment we are at our office in Germany.

Overall the selection and options offered by Tenba is larger than any other company. This means you are sure to find precisely what you are looking for in one of the Tenba catalogs. I visited the Tenba booth at Photokina and got to meet the person who designs all the clever features into the bags, their president, Robert Weinreb. Their informative web site is TENBA Quality Cases Ltd., 50 Washington Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201, tel: 718-222-9870 Eastern Time Zone,
fax: 718-222-9871
